The Civic hatchback will be made in the same style that the Japanese used for the sedan and coupe of the same name. The car will get expressive bumpers, an exhaust system with two tailpipes, and an aerodynamic spoiler. In the US, the car will go on sale with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The power of the unit will be 174 and 180 horsepower. The engine will work in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT.
In Europe, according to unofficial data, the base version will be offered with a liter gasoline engine producing 127 hp and 200 Nm of torque. The three-cylinder engine will work in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission. Also, the line of units will include a four-cylinder gasoline turbo engine with a volume of 1.5 liters. The "charged" Type R version will get a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with more than 300 horsepower.

The prototype of the Civic hatchback was presented by Honda in March 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept turned out to be 30 mm wider, 20 mm lower, and 130 mm longer than the previous generation production Civic. The car got a longer wheelbase, short overhangs, and a streamlined body.
