According to Paris authorities, the category of outdated transport includes cars that came off the assembly line before 1997, as well as motorcycles produced before June 1, 1999.
Starting from the first day of July 2016, such vehicles will be banned from appearing in the central part of the city. The capital's authorities explain this decision by their desire to reduce the concentration of harmful emissions in the air and improve the environmental situation in Paris.
The restrictions do not end there. According to the new directive of the French Minister of Ecology Ségolène Royal, the entire vehicle fleet is planned to be divided into six categories based on the degree of environmental friendliness. Car owners will be required to place special stickers with information on the windshield. It is by these marks that police officers will be able to determine whether a particular car is allowed to enter the center and adjacent neighborhoods.
If a driver ignores the ban for the first time, they will have to pay a fine of 35 euros. For a repeated violation, the amount will increase to 68 euros.
