We are talking about the 1GR-FE unit, which Toyota has been installing on frame vehicles since the early 2000s. For example, this engine powers the Toyota LC Prado (since 2002), Toyota FJ Cruiser (since 2005), and Toyota Hilux (also since 2005). In addition, the same engine was part of the 200-series "Cruiser" lineup.

In the case of the new Land Cruiser 300, the 1GR-FE engine produces 275 hp and 385 Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
As you can see, in this configuration the "300" has more modest characteristics than the versions with turbocharged V6s (recall, the 3.5-liter petrol engine delivers 415 hp and 650 Nm, while the 3.3-liter diesel produces 309 hp and 700 Nm, with both engines working in tandem with a new 10-speed automatic). However, it also has its advantages – firstly, the lower price of the vehicle (meaning you can save on purchase), and secondly, both the engine itself and its transmission are time-tested units that have proven to be very reliable.

Currently, the new configuration is available only in the United Arab Emirates (later it should appear in other countries). There, the LC 300 4.0L V6 costs just under $62.6 thousand (converted from dirhams), while the 3.5L Twin Turbo variant starts at $81.1 thousand.
By the way, the UAE became the first market in the world for the new "Cruiser" – sales there began on June 20. Moreover, not all SUVs were handed over to private owners: some of them went into service with the local police.
