Compared to the XC40, the Volvo C40 Recharge differs primarily in its lowered roofline at the rear and a different rear end. There have also been minor changes at the front – a new bumper and new headlights. The latter use the so-called "pixel technology."

The Volvo C40 Recharge is almost 7 cm lower than the XC40, while the Swedes also slightly reduced the length and width of the car. Headroom for rear passengers has decreased by 4 cm, but thanks to the lower body, the aerodynamics of the electric crossover have improved.

The car is powered by two electric motors with a total output of 402 hp and 660 Nm, paired with a 78 kWh battery and all-wheel drive. The range on a single charge is 420 km (WLTP cycle), and with a fast charger, the battery can be charged to 80% in about 40 minutes.

Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 4.7 seconds, and the top speed is (electronically limited) 180 km/h.
Production of the Volvo C40 Recharge will begin in the fall at the plant in Ghent, Belgium.
During the premiere of the new model, Volvo confirmed that by 2030 it will fully switch to producing only electric vehicles.
