The catch is that most cars brought in from the EU may not pass the mandatory technical inspection due to the technical condition of the vehicle. At least, legally. The head of the All-Ukrainian Association of Automobile Importers and Dealers (UAAID) Oleh Nazarenko drew attention to this correlation.

On his Facebook page, Nazarenko wrote that about 500 thousand used cars are imported into the country annually, 90% of them - without catalytic converters (catalysts are often stolen, and if in Ukraine this type of car theft is only gaining momentum, in Europe it has been thriving for several years). "How many percent of cars do you think will be able to pass it (the technical inspection) honestly, given the absence of the cat (catalytic converter), diesel particulate filter and lambda probe?", - the head of UAAID asks a rhetorical question.
It should be noted that the first cases of catalytic converter theft in Ukraine were recorded at the beginning of the year. Lovers of easy money hunt for precious metals (rhodium, palladium and platinum) contained in such parts. At the same time, the catalytic converters themselves are not cheap - their cost starts from 5-7 thousand UAH and can reach 25-35 thousand UAH depending on the make and model of the car.
As for the mandatory technical inspection, it was canceled in 2011, but the association agreement with the EU requires returning this procedure from the beginning of 2022. It is assumed that all passenger cars will have to undergo technical inspection - 4 years from the date of manufacture, and then every 2 years (for taxi cars - annually).
