The Volkswagen Nivus is built on the simplified modular platform MQB-A0, which also underpins the Polo and T-Cross models. The Nivus is 4266 mm long, 1757 mm wide, and 1493 mm high. The wheelbase spans 2566 mm, and the trunk offers 415 liters of usable space.

The main feature of the interior is the Volkswagen Play media center and the Active Info Display digital instrument cluster, which create a "virtual cockpit" with two ten-inch screens. The system provides access to a variety of useful apps and online services.
All-wheel drive is not available for the crossover; the equipment list includes an electronic differential lock simulation XDS. As an option, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking system, LED headlights, and other equipment are offered.

The Volkswagen Nivus is powered by a 128-horsepower 1.0 TSI turbo engine that runs on both gasoline and ethanol. The engine is paired exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Sales of the new model on the Brazilian market start in June, and next year Volkswagen plans to introduce the Nivus in Europe.
