There will not be many external changes — different bumpers, as well as new headlights and taillights reminiscent of the optics of the CLS and CLA models. The main improvements concern the technical equipment of the E-Class.

The Active Distance Assist system after the facelift will learn to "see" traffic jams or a decrease in traffic speed before the driver notices it, and automatically reduce speed. The Active Brake Assist function will brake in the event of a collision threat with vehicles at an intersection or another area with crossing paths.

Improvements will also affect blind spot monitoring — now it will be able to track potential danger when opening doors even with the engine off. The surround-view cameras after the update will show the car from the side.

Inside, there will be a new steering wheel with touch control buttons, two 10.25-inch screens of the MBUX multimedia system with voice control and navigation with augmented reality function. The latter option, as company representatives promise, will be available already in the base configuration.

Significant changes are also expected in the engine lineup. The car will have seven hybrid modifications with gasoline or diesel engines, four of which will be all-wheel drive. Two new traditional internal combustion engines will also appear: a two-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 272 horsepower and a three-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with 367 horsepower.

The company has not yet announced the presentation date of the updated E-Class lineup, but it is already known that the cars will go on sale in the summer of 2020.
