The car, developed jointly with specialists from the German company Trasco, is intended "for persons requiring constant enhanced protection."

The body of the Volvo XC90 Armoured crossover was reinforced on all sides with 10-millimeter steel armor, and the standard windows were replaced with special glass 50 millimeters thick. The total mass of the armored material amounted to 1,400 kilograms. The degree of ballistic protection corresponds to the VR8 standard — this means that the car can withstand shots from automatic weapons of 7.62 caliber and grenade explosions.

Due to the increased mass, engineers had to significantly refine the suspension, brake mechanisms, and engine of the crossover. Its standard equipment includes Run-Flat tires, a self-sealing fuel tank, and tinting of all windows.

In addition, the car is equipped with a fire extinguishing system for the fuel compartment, as well as a hidden exit — if necessary, passengers will be able to leave the crossover through the rear part of the body.

The Volvo XC90 Armoured is already available for order in the UK at a price of 450 thousand pounds sterling. The first cars will reach customers at the end of 2019.
