In the course of the joint project, engineers rely on Toyota's electric developments, while Subaru shares its experience in developing all-wheel drive systems. The new platform is planned for the production of D- and C-class vehicles, including sedans and SUVs. These cars will be sold under the brands of both companies.
Currently, Toyota has only one electric vehicle in serial production — the eco-friendly modification of the C-HR crossover. In China, its sales will begin in 2020.
Subaru, in turn, has only the plug-in hybrid Crosstrek Hybrid, which is based on Toyota units.
