The new model can be distinguished from its predecessor by a radiator grille enlarged by 40%, borrowed from the X7 crossover. In addition, the "Seven" has acquired modified LED optics. The hood and wheel arches have also undergone minor changes, and at the rear there is now a solid strip connecting the taillights.

Inside, a new digital instrument panel has appeared, and the base trim now includes wireless smartphone charging.
The top engine remains the 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12, producing the same 609 hp and 850 Nm. At the same time, the sedan received a modernized 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 engine, whose output is 530 hp and 750 Nm — 80 hp and 100 Nm more than before. The improved unit allows the model to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

All engines are paired with a modernized 8-speed automatic transmission and the Launch Control quick-start system, which is now standard equipment.
In addition, the restyled BMW 7-Series will be offered with a hybrid powertrain consisting of a six-cylinder inline "six", an electric motor, and a battery pack. The total output is 394 hp.
