Judging by everything, the production version of the crossover will borrow a number of design solutions from the concept car of the same name, which debuted in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show. The overall length of the vehicle will be 4,107 mm, which will make it one step lower in the model hierarchy than the T-Roc.
The Volkswagen T-Cross will be based on the modular MQB A0 platform — the same one used in the Seat Arona crossover. The engine lineup of the latter includes turbocharged one-liter three-cylinder gasoline units producing 95 and 110 hp. They are paired with a six-speed manual gearbox or a robotic transmission with two clutches. Also on the list of available engines is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 150 hp and two diesel engines with a displacement of 1.6 liters and outputs of 95 and 115 hp.
The basic equipment of the new model will include a frontal collision prevention system and a lane keeping assist function.
The main rivals of the T-Cross will be the Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, and Opel Mokka. The company stated that the crossover is primarily intended for the markets of China and South America.
