It fell just short of the leader Volkswagen Tiguan, which sold 332,185 units — that is 13.7% more than a year earlier. Bronze went to the Honda CR-V, whose sales dropped by 7.3% and amounted to 275,476 cars. The fourth spot was taken by the Hyundai Tucson with 235,789 vehicles sold (almost unchanged, minus 0.1%), and the top five was rounded out by the Nissan Qashqai, with 224,788 units sold, which is 5.2% higher than last year's figure.
The top ten most sought-after SUVs of 2018 also included: Great Wall Haval 6 (200,964 units, up 4.8%), Mazda CX-5 (198,136 units, plus 22.6%), Nissan Rogue/X-Trail (197,255 units, an increase of 8.2%), Kia Sportage (192,773 units, a gain of 7.5%), and Baojun 510 (189,709 units, an impressive +162.8%).
In the first five months of 2018, global sales of crossovers and SUVs reached 13.2 million units, which corresponds to 34.4% of the total passenger car sales on the planet. Moreover, more than half of all SUVs sold (57.2%) belong to the C-class — models with a length from 4.2 to 4.5 meters.
