As reported by the organization "Auto Euro Syla" on its Facebook page, law enforcement officers received an order from their superiors to stop euro plates after they were granted access to customs databases.

Several cases of drawing up reports for driving an un-customs-cleared car occurred in Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region. According to the head of "Auto Euro Syla" Oleh Yaroshevych, in one day, January 15, 15 drivers received fines.

It is worth noting that in Ukraine, fines for euro plates have been postponed several times until the adoption of the law on affordable customs clearance. The last such postponement came into force in October 2020 and lasted until December 31. At the same time, "Auto Euro Syla" claims that the actions of law enforcement officers are illegal, since a memorandum is in effect between the organization and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, according to which the police pledged not to issue fines to euro plate drivers during the New Year holidays and the strict lockdown (January 8-24).

In "Auto Euro Syla" they promised to look into what happened and provide legal assistance to any affected "euro plate" driver. If the police continue to issue rulings, activists threaten to organize protest actions in various cities of the country.

It should be noted that access to customs databases allows a police officer to determine when a particular car was imported, and thus establish whether the terms of stay of a vehicle with foreign registration on the territory of Ukraine have been violated or not.
