With this achievement, Tesla Model S Plaid has essentially confirmed its status as the fastest production car to date.

To understand how fast this is, a few examples are needed. The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport hypercar, which once broke the speed record, covered a quarter mile in 9.7 seconds (exit speed – 233.35 km/h). A regular Bugatti Chiron managed the same feat in 9.99 seconds (238.18 km/h). The power of both cars, by the way, is over 1,600 horsepower (8.0-liter W16 engine).

There are many examples not from Bugatti's history. For instance, the famous Lamborghini Huracan Performante (with a naturally aspirated V10 under its hood) covered 402 meters in 10.2 seconds at a finish speed of 218.87 km/h. The McLaren 720S, in turn, reached the end in 9.9 seconds (at a speed of 238.5 km/h).

The McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, and Ferrari LaFerrari finished in 9.8 seconds. The Koenigsegg Agera RS and McLaren Senna were not faster – they achieved results of 9.96 and 10.1 seconds, respectively.

The record run, by the way, took place at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, USA.

It is worth noting that the Tesla Model S Plaid debuted in January, and production of the new model started in June. So far, the super electric car is only being delivered to American customers. The Plaid reaches 100 km/h in 2.1 seconds, with a top speed of 322 km/h. On a single charge, the car travels 627 km. The price starts at $129,990.
