The list of restrictions includes Mercedes-Benz Vito minivans with 1.6-liter engines, as well as Porsche Macan and Cayenne crossovers equipped with 3.0 and 4.2-liter engines, respectively. The registration restriction applies to vehicles imported into the country after August 17. Cars that were already registered before that date remain in operation, but their engines will need to be modified.
Such restrictions for Porsche vehicles are not new. As early as June, it was reported that the German manufacturer was forced to suspend sales of its models in Europe because they did not meet the stricter environmental requirements introduced by the European Union.
In 2017, German authorities also imposed a ban on the registration of new Porsche Cayenne crossovers with three-liter V6 turbodiesels. The reason was the use of a special algorithm in the engines that artificially lowered harmful emission readings. In addition, the German Ministry of Transport demanded that Porsche recall approximately 22,000 Cayenne vehicles with such engines to install updated software.
