Tavares believes that the key problem of the concern's European division is excessive market regulation and too sharp an acceleration towards electric vehicles. In his opinion, this deprived Stellantis of a significant part of its technical potential and reduced its maneuverability. If we add the strengthening of Chinese competitors to this, the European part of the corporation may be forced to seek support from outside or even change its owner.
But in North America, the situation looks much more optimistic. The new head of Stellantis, Antonio Filosa, has already managed to put things in order in the US market and announced serious investments in production — over 13 billion dollars. Tavares called Filosa a "reliable captain" who is able to steer the company through the storm.
Currently, the European part of Stellantis is going through difficult times: strict environmental regulations, mediocre demand for electric cars, and the increasingly active promotion of Chinese brands call into question its ability to compete. "The fate of the concern will be decided very soon, — Tavares emphasizes. — Whether Stellantis will remain a single whole or end up under Chinese control — that is the main question".
