These videos demonstrate one of the key advantages of electric vehicles over cars with internal combustion engines. Unlike traditional cars, they are not afraid of flooding. The secret is that in electric cars, water actually has nowhere to penetrate — electric motors, the battery pack, and all wiring are reliably insulated. Therefore, electric cars are not threatened by water hammer, and they do not require air to operate.

Previously, Tesla CEO Elon Musk noted this feature. He mentioned that electric cars of this California company even have a secret “boat mode.” Of course, it was a joke — Musk simply wanted to emphasize that such cars are capable of acting as a watercraft for some time, at least briefly.

Footage from China clearly proves this. In the first two videos, you can see a Model 3 getting out of a flooded tunnel and driving past other cars that have “run aground.” The third video, shot from the cabin, shows a Model 3 confidently driving through a deep puddle, with water reaching even the hood.

Below you can watch another video prepared by Tesla itself earlier. It, in particular, demonstrates factory testing of cars, and one of the test stages is driving along a flooded road (this fragment starts at the 01:09 mark).
