The first signs of malfunction were discovered on February 13: due to overheating of the clutch disc caused by friction, the gearbox housing cracked and failed. Following this incident, Jeep engineers conducted a series of laboratory tests confirming the risk of fire. The problem affected gearboxes produced between August 23, 2017 and February 13, 2020, which are installed in 29,818 Wrangler SUVs and 3,419 Gladiator pickup trucks.

The brand's management decided to launch a service campaign and temporarily stop sales of cars already sent to dealers. Owners are advised that if the vehicle loses traction or a burning smell appears, they should immediately stop and leave the cabin.
