The new model will compete with the Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Jeep Renegade. The model is based on the new modular TNGA platform, which debuted on the fourth-generation Prius.

According to preliminary information, the new model will be available in a hybrid version or with a pure internal combustion engine. The petrol-electric powertrain with a 1.8-liter petrol engine develops 122 horsepower.

With only an internal combustion engine, the Toyota C-HR will be offered with a 1.2-liter 115-horsepower turbo engine. The gearbox is a six-speed manual or a CVT. All-wheel drive is available only with the CVT, while the manual is front-wheel drive.

The European version of the Toyota C-HR will be produced at Toyota's plant in Turkey. Sales will start in the third quarter of 2016.
