Earlier we already considered one railway crossing in Kyiv. Now let's analyze a situation where the crossing is further complicated by a secondary road joining the main one directly before the crossing itself.

Question from Gena:
Vinnytsia, Chekhov Street, direction from the 'Vladimir' car market towards Nemirovskoye Highway.

At the junction of the secondary road with Chekhov Street, there is a sign 2.2 'No passing without stopping' (STOP) together with a sign 1.29 'Single-track railway'. Immediately after entering Chekhov Street, there is again a 'STOP' paired with a sign 1.29, and behind it is the crossing itself. Question: is a driver exiting from the secondary road obliged to stop before the first 'STOP' sign, which stands before the junction with Chekhov Street? Or is this sign simply duplicating the second one, since the crossing is behind the next sign?

Comment from the experts of the Karat driving school:
1. According to the Ukrainian traffic rules, point 33, stopping before sign 2.2 (STOP) is mandatory.
2. According to point 16.11 of the traffic rules, those driving on a secondary road must give way to vehicles on the main road.

3. Sign 1.29 'Single-track railway' is placed before all crossings without a barrier. If the crossing has a traffic light, the sign is mounted on the same pole as it. If there is no traffic light, it is placed at a distance of at least 20 meters from the nearest rail.

From this follows the conclusion: even if sign 1.29 on the secondary road is installed with a violation (since it cannot be a duplicate), stopping before the 'STOP' sign is still mandatory, regardless of the presence of other signs.

Summary:

Stopping is required before each of the 'STOP' signs.
