It is planned to introduce a system of penalty points on a five-point scale. Depending on the severity of the violation, the driver will be assessed from one to five points. In the event that 15 points accumulate over a year (or 10 for those who have had a license for less than a year), the driver's license will temporarily lose validity.
To regain the right to drive, one will have to undergo training and pass an exam again. Points will be tied to a specific person, not to a vehicle.
In addition, it is proposed to reduce the permitted speed limit threshold. Currently, liability arises for exceeding the limit by more than 20 km/h, and in the future, they want to lower this threshold to 10 km/h.
Possible gradation of fines for speeding:
-
over 10 km/h — 340 hryvnias;
-
over 20 km/h — 680 hryvnias;
-
over 30 km/h — 1360 hryvnias;
-
over 80 km/h — 3400 hryvnias.
As Oleksandr Kreidenko noted, this initiative aims to strengthen the discipline of road users and reduce the number of accidents, since the current system of punishments often does not encourage drivers to comply with the rules.
