According to Fedorov, the technical readiness of the service reaches 90%, although the corresponding draft law has not yet been adopted. The essence of the innovation is not only that the procedure has been digitized and now a car purchased abroad can be cleared online in a few clicks. The calculation formula itself changes, which makes it impossible for a customs officer to subjectively assess the cost of customs clearance and thus completely eliminates the corruption component. However, for this, it is necessary for parliamentarians to support the draft law, which the government has already developed and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada for consideration. Currently, the committee meeting is awaited, and Fedorov hopes that MPs will vote for this document.
In addition, the customs reform provides for several more initiatives, including:
- Ukraine's accession to the Convention on the Common Transit Procedure, which will ensure the so-called "customs visa-free" with the European Union;
- launching joint checkpoints on the border with EU countries;
- expanding checkpoints within the "Open Border" initiative, as well as equipping modern service areas near the border for trucks and drivers;
- introducing an electronic queue for crossing the state border.
