Currently, this method is used to manufacture a number of components for Mercedes-Benz trucks, including clamps, fasteners, and air ducts. To date, more than one hundred thousand such parts have been created using 3D printing.

Daimler AG believes that the use of 3D printing will make it possible to expand the range of components and, in the future, have a positive effect on the final cost for customers. The German concern also expects that the new technology will allow for the easy production of parts for models that have been discontinued for a long time.

As reported by Reuters, the production of these parts uses the method of selective laser sintering, which involves using lasers to fuse particles of powder material until a three-dimensional physical object is obtained.
