It was named Pothole Alert and is being tested on the Range Rover Evoque crossover.
The system works as follows: using special sensors, it is able to detect potholes, ditches and manhole covers. The electronics can quickly adjust the suspension settings to soften the impact as much as possible.

So far, Pothole Alert only scans the road near the car. But Jaguar Land Rover claims that in the future the system will do this over a long distance, using a stereoscopic camera to detect road surface defects.
If the pothole turns out to be too large, the electronics can slow down or even completely stop the car.
In addition, information about road defects will be sent to a cloud database, which will inform other drivers about upcoming danger. Images from the front camera and GPS coordinates of problem areas will be sent to local authorities for prompt road repair. For now, JLR engineers are cooperating with the municipality of the city of Coventry.
