According to company representatives, sales of the production version of their first prototype P5 will begin in 2016. This car, or rather a small car, should be very economical thanks to a new engine specially developed for it.

Of course, calling a three-wheeled cart covered with a body a full-fledged car can only be done with a stretch, but since the manufacturer claims so, we will not argue with them. The new model will get a three-cylinder gasoline engine with a displacement of 0.9 liters. Its power has not been announced yet, but they claim it is the first power unit developed from scratch in the USA in the last 60 years. They are being disingenuous, of course, since Americans were actively assisted by specialists from the engineering company IAV.

We only know that together with a modern 6-speed manual transmission from Aisin, the P5 engine will consume about 2.8 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers. At the same time, the car should be quite dynamic.

The small car will be produced at a plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, where General Motors previously manufactured the Hummer H3 and the Chevrolet Colorado pickup. Elio Motors plans to sell the cars for $6,800.
