The Ministry of Internal Affairs provided data upon the request of the publication "Telegraph". According to the information, in the period from June 1 to December 22, 2020, the Register of Administrative Offenses in the Field of Road Safety recorded 1,190,639 resolutions on imposing fines for speeding detected by automatic systems.
At the same time, more than 70% of violators — 844,570 people — took advantage of the opportunity to pay the fine within ten days, receiving a 50% discount. Information about resolutions that were canceled in court is currently absent from the register.
It is important to emphasize that all the listed violations were recorded by cameras exclusively in Kyiv and the region. Outside the capital region, the automatic recording system began operating only at the end of December, when the first three devices were installed on the Kyiv-Chop highway in the Lviv region.
Next year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the expansion of the camera network — in November, 80 new devices were purchased, and in the coming years, their total number is planned to be increased to 300. In addition, starting from 2021, phantom patrols will begin to operate on the roads.
