As a result of the measures taken since the beginning of the year, 12 dangerous sections on roads have been eliminated, and 85 zones where accidents often occurred have been removed from the register. For comparison: in the same period of 2010, there were 49 such zones.

From January to September 2011, road services installed 59,300 signs, 32,000 guide posts, laid 60.7 km of new metal barriers, mounted 16.7 km of artificial lighting lines and 2.6 km of pedestrian fences. Also, repairs were carried out on 493.3 km of barrier fences, 20.5 km of lighting was restored, and 14 km of old structures (cable, reinforced concrete and parapet) were replaced with metal ones.

In addition, during the specified period, 28.5 km of sidewalks were repaired, markings were applied on 23.5 thousand km of roadway, and visibility was improved along 10 thousand km of roads. Traffic schemes were developed and updated along 236 km of highways, and two small bridges were expanded.

In order to improve safety and traffic convenience, as well as reduce the number of serious accidents, the Ministry of Infrastructure has prepared an order regarding the installation of artificial lighting on first-category highways. In addition, to strengthen and extend the service life of the road surface, reduce earthworks and save resources, another document was issued providing for the use of geosynthetic materials in the construction, reconstruction and major repairs of roads.
