Toyota Motor's Australian division is bringing updated versions of the Land Cruiser LC70 pickup and SUV to the market. The Series 70 model has long been absent from the lineup in most global markets, but production continues for Australia: demand remains strong thanks to its simple and reliable design, as well as its relatively low price.

The changes made to the LC70 for the 2010 model year mainly concern safety and comfort. The SUV gets a larger front bumper, the shape of which is dictated by the need to align the modern airbag deployment algorithm with the front body rigidity. The LC70 also features a telescopic steering column to reduce the risk of injury, and a four-spoke polyurethane steering wheel designed to lessen the severity of driver injuries. The front passenger grab handle has been moved from the center console to the roof pillar—also for safety reasons.

For greater passenger comfort, the interior trim materials have been updated. GXL trims offer new upholstery fabrics in gray-blue and oak shades. The instrument panel and cluster have been revised, and an additional water bottle holder has been installed next to the gear shift lever.

The standard audio system of the Land Cruiser LC70 has also been upgraded: it now supports MP3 format, is equipped with a USB port and Bluetooth. The vehicle is available in three standard body or cab colors: French Vanilla, Sandy Taupe, and Midnight Blue. However, both the pickup and passenger versions can be ordered with a two-tone paint job, adding one of four additional options to the main color: Silver Pearl, Graphite, Merlot Red, or Vintage Gold.

The 4.5-liter diesel engine remains unchanged. It produces 202 hp at 3,400 rpm and delivers 430 Nm of torque at 1,200 rpm. It is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, supplemented by a transfer case with a low range.

The price of the updated LC70 has increased by 600 Australian dollars. The base version with the pickup now costs 57,640 dollars, while the passenger versions cost 58,540 and 64,540 Australian dollars, respectively.
