Elon Musk, the head of the company, announced the coveted Tesla for $25,000 back in 2018. At that time, he stated that such a car would appear in three years (that is, in 2021). It should become a "people's" electric car - a vehicle that almost everyone can afford. In addition, it will be the most affordable model in the manufacturer's lineup; currently, the cheapest Tesla car is Model 3 in the Standard Range Plus version - in the US, they ask $37,990 for it. Until recently, the company also had a cheaper Standard modification priced at $35,000, but last year it was discontinued due to low demand.

In an interview with the state media channel Xinhua Net China, Tom Zhu stated that the future electric car will be created by a research center at the Tesla automobile plant in Shanghai. Currently, this center is under construction. The top manager emphasized that the company's Chinese representative office strives to "design, develop, and produce" its own original Tesla car that will appeal to all world markets without exception.

It is expected that the new compact electric vehicle will have a hatchback body, and its basis will be the platform from the aforementioned Model 3. Work on the car is expected to begin this year (as can be seen, the project is somewhat behind the deadlines announced by Elon Musk).
