The head of Volkswagen's electrified models division, Kai Philipp, said that the company is currently considering the possibility of creating a plug-in hybrid based on the T-Roc, which will be able to charge from the power grid.

Since the MQB architecture is well suited for installing hybrid powertrains, there will be no engineering difficulties in producing such a modification. Most likely, the T-Roc GTE will take the powertrain from the eponymous Golf version: a 1.4 turbocharged petrol engine with 150 horsepower, a six-speed automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor producing 116 horsepower, and a 13 kWh battery pack.

However, one should not expect a hybrid T-Roc in the near future — Volkswagen is currently focusing its efforts on electrifying the Tiguan and Arteon. It is expected that such versions will appear along with the planned update of these models, and the decision on the hybrid T-Roc will be made after assessing demand for the Tiguan GTE.
