According to insider information, the new generation of the model will be built on the modular aluminum platform MLA. This solution will make it possible to expand the range of engines with electric powertrains, reduce curb weight, improve driving characteristics, and make petrol and diesel versions more economical.

As Autocar reviewers note, the main competitor of the new product will be the Porsche Cayenne. The MLA architecture, in their opinion, will allow the new Range Rover Sport to become one of the best-handling SUVs. At the same time, dramatic changes in appearance should not be expected: in the third generation, the car will retain the recognizable look of the current model.

The range of powertrains for the Range Rover Sport will include mild and plug-in hybrids. The main focus is planned to be on electrified inline six-cylinder Ingenium engines, and for top trim levels, the possibility of installing a 4.4-liter V8 from BMW is being considered. An electric vehicle with two motors will appear about a year after the release of the hybrid versions — its debut is expected no earlier than 2023.

The Range Rover Sport remains the most commercially successful Land Rover model. In key markets, this SUV sells one and a half times better than the regular Range Rover, and its margin exceeds that of the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Velar.
