Judging by the teasers, the new Golf will differ from the current model with a more sculpted hood, completely different optics combined with a narrow radiator grille, as well as a lower roofline.
Inside, there will be a minimum of analog buttons and mechanical switches — most functions can be controlled via a large touchscreen in a separate block, visually combined with a fully digital instrument panel. The multimedia system will be able to download updates from the cloud storage.

The engine lineup will include a new family of 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engines, as well as a 1.5-liter diesel engine, which will replace the current 1.6-liter units. Also, the eighth Volkswagen Golf will have a version with a hybrid powertrain with the ability to recharge batteries from a household electrical outlet. It is expected that the GTE modification will receive a hybrid powertrain with more powerful units and an increased range on electric power alone. Later, the new model will receive a sporty modification called GTI with an engine producing about 250 horsepower.
The Volkswagen Golf will be based on a significantly modernized scalable MQB architecture, thanks to which, depending on the modification, the car will become lighter by 35–70 kilograms. At the same time, the trunk volume of the hatchback will increase to approximately 400 liters.
Production of the car will be established at the plant in Wolfsburg. The total investment in the development of the next Golf will be about 1.8 billion euros, and about 3 billion euros more will be spent on preparing for production.
