In the photo of the test sample, one can only assess the general outlines of the future Volkswagen Golf. However, spy shots of the hatchback, taken during the official advertising shoot of the model, had already appeared online earlier. Judging by these frames, the new Golf will get a more expressive sculpted hood, different optics that will combine with a narrow radiator grille, and a lowered roofline compared to the current version.
In the interior, a minimal number of physical buttons and mechanical switches will be used — most functions can be controlled via a large touchscreen, which will be visually combined with a fully digital instrument panel. The multimedia system will also have the ability to download updates from the cloud.
The new Volkswagen Golf will be built on a significantly refined scalable MQB platform, which will reduce the car's weight by 35–70 kilograms depending on the trim level. At the same time, the hatchback's trunk volume will increase to approximately 400 liters.
The engine lineup will feature a new family of 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engines, as well as a 1.5-liter diesel that will replace the previous 1.6-liter units. In addition, the eighth Volkswagen Golf will be available in a hybrid version with the ability to charge the battery from a regular household outlet.
