Marumoto stated that the first to appear will be engines from the SkyActive-X line, and by 2020 the company will present the first Mazda with fully electric drive. Then, in 2021 or 2022, plug-in hybrids that can be charged from a regular household outlet are expected.
According to available information, the first electric Mazda will be a separate model, not a version of an existing car with a "green" filling. Technologies and components for the electric motor will likely be developed in partnership with Denso.
As for hybrid versions, they will be built on the basis of one of the units of the new SkyActive-X family. In such an engine, the fuel-air mixture will be able to ignite from compression in the cylinder, similar to how it is implemented in diesels. At the same time, the SkyActive-X engines will retain the usual spark plugs, which will be activated under high loads.
