The universal version of the Ford Focus ST can be ordered with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine producing 280 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque, or with a two-liter EcoBlue turbodiesel with 190 horsepower and 400 Nm. Both units work in conjunction with a six-speed manual gearbox, however, for the gasoline modification, a seven-speed robotic transmission with Adaptive Shift Scheduling mode, which adapts the gearshift logic to the driving style, will later become available.

Gasoline versions of the Focus ST are equipped with an electronic self-locking differential eLSD and adaptive suspension CCD. Also, a Performance package is provided for them, including a special track mode for electronic systems and a launch control function. Additionally, the model with the 2.3-liter engine received the "anti-lag" technology borrowed from the GT supercar and F-150 Raptor pickup: in Sport and Track modes, it keeps the throttle open longer to maintain turbocharger speed.
Acceleration from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour for the Focus ST hatchback takes 5.7 seconds, and for the wagon — 5.8 seconds. Diesel modifications handle this exercise in 7.6 and 7.7 seconds, respectively. The maximum speed of gasoline cars is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour, while diesel versions develop no more than 220 km/h.
