The compact crossover is close to the Kia SP concept, which was presented last year at the auto show in New Delhi, India. According to preliminary information, the production version of the model will be called Tusker and will debut in mid-April in New York.
The Kia Tusker will be built on the same modular platform as the next-generation Hyundai Creta. This chassis will allow for models with a seven-seat interior, but the Tusker will be offered exclusively with five seats.

It is expected that the engine lineup will include a 1.4-liter 140-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, which is installed on the third-generation Ceed. In addition, the crossover will be available with a two-liter engine producing 150 hp.
The first unit works in conjunction with a 7-speed dual-clutch robot, while the second will be paired with a new iVT continuously variable transmission. The crossover will be left without an all-wheel-drive system to avoid internal competition with the Hyundai Kona.
