During the demonstration of the iNext, the car was on board a Boeing 777 aircraft belonging to Lufthansa. The airliner departed from Munich, headed for New York, and then continued to Frankfurt, flying through San Francisco and Beijing. The car stands out for its unusual appearance and fully automated control system. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed other characteristics.
It is known that the electric crossover will be equipped with two modes — Boost and Ease. The first allows the driver to take control, the second involves movement without human participation. When the car operates in autonomous mode, the steering column hides, and the driver's seat can be turned to face the other passengers.
BMW emphasized that the batteries for the electric vehicle will be produced by the company itself. Previously, the Germans cooperated with Samsung in this area. Also, the crossover will receive a completely new multimedia system that does not require separate screens — the image can be displayed on any surface in the cabin.
To activate the multimedia functions, it is enough to simply touch any part of the iNext interior. The company did not specify whether such technology will appear on the production version of the car.
The range of the new model will depend on the modification. On a single charge, the crossover will be able to cover from 450 to 700 km. The most powerful version of the electric car will likely receive an engine with output up to 800 hp.
