The Volvo XC40 received a rather original design and does not look like a scaled-down copy of its older siblings, the XC60 and XC90.

The interior of the crossover also boasts many elements that add individuality to the familiar cabin.

The XC40 became the first Volvo model to adopt the completely new CMA platform. The model will be available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The initial engine lineup of the crossover will consist of two-liter engines borrowed from larger models, but over time it will expand with a three-cylinder 1.5-liter power unit. More detailed technical data has not yet been disclosed.

The XC40's equipment list includes the proprietary City Safety safety system, which prevents collisions with pedestrians and cyclists, as well as collisions with other cars. The crossover also gets the proprietary Pilot Assist autopilot, which operates at speeds up to 130 km/h.

The XC40 also turned out to be the first car that can be opened with a special digital key sent to any smartphone.

Production of the Volvo XC40 crossover will start in November at the Belgian plant in Ghent.
