Most likely, the sedan's exterior will echo the Volvo Concept Universe prototype, unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2011. However, the production version will differ from the concept with an aggressive front bumper, a large air intake, T-shaped daytime running lights in the style of "Thor's hammer," a new exhaust system with two tailpipes, a sloping roof, and a large hood.

The new model will be based on the modular Scalable Product Architecture platform. According to preliminary information, the engine lineup will include four-cylinder Drive-E engines: a pair of gasoline units (254 hp and 350 Nm; 320 hp and 400 Nm) and two diesel engines (190 hp and 400 Nm; 224 hp and 470 Nm). The possibility of a hybrid powertrain in the range is also not ruled out.

The company notes that the new sedan will primarily target the US and Chinese markets. It is in these countries that large sedans are in the highest demand.
