At the heart of the new model is a lightweight aluminum space frame, with independent double-wishbone suspension, plus a fresh powertrain. The engine is offered in two output versions. It's a V8 with twin turbochargers. The base version produces 462 hp, while the 'S' variant delivers 510 hp.

The engine, as is customary for AMG, is assembled by hand. It is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch robotic transmission located at the rear of the body.

The curb weight of the base Mercedes-AMG GT is 1540 kg, while the S version weighs 1570 kg. The weight distribution is 47:53 with a bias towards the rear axle. Each horsepower corresponds to approximately three kilograms of mass.

Acceleration to 100 km/h takes exactly 4 seconds for the standard supercar variant, and 3.8 seconds for the more powerful one. The top speed reaches 304 km/h in the first case and 310 km/h in the second. The world premiere of the model will take place in autumn at the Paris Motor Show. Sales of the AMG GT will start in March 2015.
