The German publication Autobild reports that the new generation Golf will be based on the Modularer Querbaukasten modular platform. This solution will make it possible to reduce the vehicle's weight by 40-100 kg and add more free space both in the cabin and in the trunk. It is already clear that the seventh Golf from Volkswagen will be slightly wider and longer than its previous version. At the same time, the car's design remains secret — it will be shown to the public only at the official presentation scheduled for September 4, 2012 in Berlin.
In addition, the new Golf will be equipped with many useful high-tech features. In addition to the already familiar traffic sign recognition and automatic parking assistants, the car will receive adaptive cruise control that can independently drive the car in traffic jams and in urban traffic conditions, as well as a braking system capable of continuing deceleration even after a collision. Also, the arsenal will include collision avoidance systems and driver fatigue monitoring, which will not let the driver fall asleep at the wheel.
As for the engine range, the gasoline part will consist of three TSI engines: a 1.2-liter unit with 105 hp, a 1.4-liter engine in two versions — 122 and 140 hp, as well as a 2.0-liter engine with 220 hp, intended for the GTI version. Diesel enthusiasts will be able to choose from one of four TDI engines developing 90, 110, 150 and 180 hp (the latter for the GTD version).
Also in the lineup will be a modification running on natural gas with 110 hp, and the E-Golf E85 version producing 122 hp. It is not yet known which options will appear on the Russian market, but in Europe all of them will be available already in November 2012 — it is in this month that official sales start. In addition, by the end of 2013, Volkswagen plans to launch a "hot" version of the Golf R, equipped with all-wheel drive, DSG gearbox, sports suspension and a 290-horsepower biturbo engine.
