The current generation Polo is produced exclusively in three- and five-door hatchback bodies, and Volkswagen management believes that such a limitation of the body lineup leads to a loss of market share. If a buyer needs a compact but spacious car, they choose competitors' offers. Moreover, station wagons in the B-class are already offered by related brands: Skoda Fabia and the recently updated Seat Ibiza have this body type.
It is assumed that the Polo station wagon will be somewhat longer than the current hatchback, and not only the overall length will increase, but also the wheelbase. As a result, the trunk volume with the rear seats raised will reach approximately 450 liters (the standard hatchback has 280 liters), and with the seats folded, the cargo area volume will approach 1500 liters.
