Today, if a person fails the exam, they can try again in just 10 days. The new rules provide for stricter terms:

  • the first retake — no earlier than 20 days later;

  • all subsequent attempts — with an interval of 30 days.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs says such changes are needed to ensure future drivers are better prepared. Statistics show that only 16% of people pass the practical part on the first try. That is, the majority do not have sufficient skills for independent driving, but still go for a retake, hoping for luck. Longer pauses between attempts should make people take their training more seriously and relieve service centers.

On the other hand, such innovations will complicate the situation for those who fail the exam immediately. Additional waiting is not only wasted time but also extra money: paid lessons with an instructor, renewal of documents, and other bureaucratic procedures.

It is worth noting that the draft of the relevant order has only been submitted for public discussion, so the final decision has not yet been made. If the initiative is approved, beginners will have to not only learn the traffic rules but also plan their attempts in advance so that the process does not drag on for months.
