Let us remind you that the need to replace old driver's licenses issued back in the days of the Soviet Union is enshrined in the law of Ukraine "On the Unified State Demographic Register and Documents Confirming the Citizenship of Ukraine, Identifying a Person or Their Social Status." The document came into effect on December 6, 2012.

It states that licenses issued on forms approved by the executive bodies of the USSR lose their validity from January 1, 2014.

Discussing this innovation on forums, drivers rightly asked the question: what to do if the driver's license is lost, and it was issued not in Ukraine, but in one of the other union republics? In such a situation, it is almost impossible to restore the document.

The State Traffic Inspectorate responded to this problem and made a compromise decision: the examination card when exchanging licenses will be requested only if the driver has it. If this document is not available, it will not be an obstacle to replacing the license. It is worth adding that licenses obtained in the USSR really had to be earned, unlike today's times, when everything is decided by money.

To exchange a driver's license at the State Traffic Inspectorate, you must provide the following package of documents and receipts:
– payment receipts for forms and State Traffic Inspectorate services;
– two color photographs measuring 3.5x4.5 cm;
– a current medical certificate of the established form confirming fitness to drive vehicles of the corresponding category;
– a passport or a document replacing it;
– a valid driver's license;
– the driver's examination card.
