Describing the exterior differences is hardly advisable. It is better to evaluate them from comparative photos that clearly demonstrate the changes in appearance and interior.

As for the technical part, like all new Volkswagen models, the 2017 Tiguan is built on the MQB modular platform. The new model offers 4 petrol TSI engines (125, 150, 180, and 220 hp) and the same number of turbodiesels (115, 150, 190, and 240 hp). Except for the base units, all engines are available with the new generation of 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

The Germans note a significant reduction in weight and an increase in size. The new Tiguan is 60 mm longer, 30 mm wider, and 33 mm lower than its predecessor. Despite the lower height, the ground clearance has increased by 11 mm and now stands at 200 mm. The luggage compartment volume has also increased to 615 liters (previously 470 liters). The basic equipment of the second Tiguan includes an emergency braking system with pedestrian recognition, collision emergency braking, and lane keeping assist. The new multimedia system will feature a five- or eight-inch touchscreen and will support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
