All contenders meet certain criteria, including sales in at least five European countries, availability of test drives, and the possibility of purchase. The winner will be chosen by a jury of 60 automotive journalists: on November 29, the seven finalists will be determined, and the winner's name will be announced on February 16, 2022.
The list includes four BMW models: 2 Series Coupe, 2 Series Active Tourer, as well as the electric i4 and iX. Audi has only electric vehicles on the list: e-tron GT and Q4 e-tron, while Mercedes-Benz has the C-Class, Citan, and EQS. Volkswagen is represented by the Caddy, ID.4, and T7 Multivan, and Opel Mokka has also joined the competition.
Among the nominees are also Cupra Born, Dacia Spring, DS 4 and 9, Maserati MC20, McLaren Artura, Peugeot 308, Renault Arkana and Megane E-Tech, as well as Skoda Enyaq iV and Fabia, MG EHS and Marvel R. American manufacturers limited themselves to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y, while Japanese cars are significantly more numerous: Honda HR-V, Lexus NX, Nissan Qashqai, Subaru Outback, as well as Toyota Highlander and Yaris Cross. Korean brands are not forgotten either: Kia EV6, Hyundai Bayon, and Ioniq 5.
Models of Chinese origin also have a chance to win the title of "Best Car in Europe 2022". These include the Lynk & Co 01 and Aiways U5.
Last year, the title went to the compact hatchback Toyota Yaris, which scored 266 points. It beat the Fiat 500 (240 points) and Cupra Formentor (239 points).
