For the tests, a fresh Mercedes-Benz S400d 4Matic was taken, equipped with adaptive shock absorbers and optional air suspension, but without the rear-wheel steering system. The car was tested in dynamic mode. The maximum speed shown by the sedan was 74 km/h.

It is worth noting that a confident pass of the maneuver simulating a sharp obstacle avoidance is considered to be a speed of 77 km/h or more. At such a speed, the Mercedes S-Class 2021 failed to maintain the given trajectory. Nevertheless, according to the testers, modifications with rear-wheel steering may demonstrate a higher result in this exercise.

Interestingly, the flagship Mercedes sedan lost in the moose test to an inexpensive electric vehicle from Renault. The compact electric crossover reached the required 77 km/h and left positive impressions among the experts.
