Since the model appeared on the market in the late 30s of the last century, it has been produced in a quantity of 21.5 million units. The "people's" car was assembled at several enterprises, including in Germany and Mexico, with the Puebla plant providing Beetle hatchbacks to all of Latin America since 1967.

The Volkswagen Beetle was created by Ferdinand Porsche on the orders of Adolf Hitler. The Beetle was intended to become an affordable "people's" car, similar to the Ford T in the USA. Porsche's task was for the car to accommodate up to five people and reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. For decades, the "Beetle" had a rear-engine layout, until the New Beetle appeared in 1998, built on the architecture of the Volkswagen Golf model.

In 2012, a new generation model on the Jetta platform hit the market, and in the fall of 2018, the concern decided to cease production. Before its departure, the Beetle received two "farewell" versions in the USA - Final Edition SE and Final Edition SEL, priced from 23 thousand dollars.
