The award is given to cars in three categories: passenger cars, SUVs and pickup trucks, as well as crossovers. The names of the winners will be announced at the Detroit auto show in January 2019, as stated in a press release from the competition.
The jury consists of 60 journalists. Voting by participants will start soon.
In the "passenger car" category, the following models are vying for victory: Audi A6, Buick Regal Tour X, Genesis G70, Honda Insight, Hyundai Veloster, Kia Forte, Mazda6, Mercedes A-Class, Nissan Altima, Nissan Leaf, Toyota Avalon, Toyota Corolla, Volvo S60 and Volkswagen Jetta.
Crossovers and minivans were placed by the organizers into a separate category due to their "growing importance for buyers, manufacturers and the entire industry as a whole." Among the contenders here are: Acura RDX, BMW X5, Cadillac XT4, Infiniti QX50, Jaguar I-Pace and Volvo XC40. Also competing for the title of the best are Hyundai Kona, Hyundai Santa Fe, Jeep Wrangler, Nissan Kicks, Subaru Ascent and Toyota RAV4.
In the category of SUVs and pickup trucks, the jury members chose Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 and Ram 1500.
Last year, the winner of the competition was the Honda Accord model. The final list then also included Kia Stinger and Toyota Camry. Among SUVs and pickup trucks, the jury preferred the Lincoln Navigator, and in the class of crossovers and minivans, the Volvo XC60 turned out to be the best.
