An automobile plant is planned to be built in the Fergana region. At the initial stage, according to preliminary estimates, the volume of investments will amount to about 15–20 million US dollars, and for large-unit assembly of thousands of electric cars per year (similar to Chevrolet Spark and Nexia models), 100–150 jobs will be created. The second stage provides for the organization of local production with the involvement of capacities of related enterprises of Uzbekistan and the expansion of the staff.
The Chinese side intends to focus on the production of modern cars with hybrid power plants or fully electric engines in the republic. By 2025, the plans include the production of 21 models of pure electric vehicles and 12 hybrid versions, which will cover the entire lineup — from small cars to premium coupes.
Changan Automobile Group is one of the four largest Chinese automakers by production volume. The concern owns joint ventures with Ford Motor, Suzuki Motor, Mazda Motor, and PSA Peugeot Citroen. The launch of the plant in Uzbekistan will allow the Chinese giant to supply its electric vehicles to the Middle East markets on particularly favorable terms.
